A Learning Website For Middle School Students

Create A Multimedia Presentation About Michigan

A multimedia presentation includes two things:
a well designed slideshow and a well prepared speech.

Never read your slides to your audience because they can read!
When a slide is displayed, give your audience additional
information about the content that's on that slide.

Part 1:  Get Focused
  1. First, read this entire webpage.
  2. View this slideshow.
  3. Read this model, then do this:
List 5 things you learned from this model about creating a multimedia presentation - consider both parts - the slideshow and the speech.  Do this on line paper.  Hand it in.

Part 2:  Gather Some Facts
  1. Using a search engine, gather 10 interesting and unique facts about the State of Michigan.  Write in complete sentences.  Use you own words.
  2. Cite your sources.  Click here for those directions.

Part 3:  Design Three Graphics

Using PAINT, design three graphics that compliment three of your facts and represent the State of Michigan.

Part 4:  Create a PowerPoint SlideShow

  1. Read these suggestions over before you begin designing your PowerPoint Slideshow:
    • Three easy to read color schemes:
A dark sky blue background with dark yellow text.

A medium to dark yellow background with dark sky blue text.
      Soaring in the Design Templates.

    • Arial is a font that's easy to read.

    • Title Text should be between 36 - 40 points.

    • Bulleted Text should be at least 24 points

    • Type no more than 8 lines of text on a slide.

    • Type no more than 8 words on a line.

    • Bold, italic and/or underline only those words that are important.

    • Use graphics when you want to make a point.

    • Use animation when it helps you to make a point.  Animation can be distracting!

  1. Using the facts you gathered and the graphics you designed, create a four slide PowerPoint Slideshow about the State of Michigan.  Use this format:

    Slide 1

    Slide 2

    Slide 3

    Slide 4

  1. Proof read and run a spell check.

  2. Save as: Michigan, your computer code

  3. Print your slideshow.

Part 5:  Write A Speech

  1. Open up a new word processing file.  Write a speech that compliments your slideshow.
    At the intro screen:
    Introduce yourself.  Explain the assignment.
    At each fact screen:
Comment on one or two of your facts.  Give additional information. Make things clearer.
Talk about your graphics - why did you choose to design the graphics that you designed? What do they have to do with Michigan?
    At the  resource screen:
Comment on the resources you used.
    Were they valid resources?
Would you recommend these resources for others to use - why or why not.

  2. Footer:  your full name, your computer code

  3. Run a spell check and proof read.

  4. Save as: speech, your computer code

  5. Print your speech.

Part 6:  Practice Your Speech Out Loud

Run your slideshow as you practice your speech.

I am going to randomly choose three students to present their multimedia presentation to the class.  Be prepared - you might be one of those three people.
