Betsy Ross
1752-1836

Betsy Ross was a seamstress and some believe the maker of the first American flag.

When her husband died in 1776, she  took over his upholstery business.  Then in May of 1776, three members of the first Continental Congress came to call upon her.  These three representatives, George Washington, Robert Morris and George Ross asked Betsy if she would make the first national flag.  Betsy Ross agreed to do this and proceeded to make this famous flag.
