What's 6th Grade Like?
Are you a 5th Grader? Will you be coming to Stout next year? Well if you are,
this page is
for you because all the comments on this page were made by 6th graders
about 6th grade.

How is 6th grade different
than 5th grade?
- 6th graders have more teachers and more
classes than fifth graders.
- In 6th grade you have seven classes - four
core classes, one elective, gym and enrichment.
- You switch classes every hour.
- You carry your trapper and books from class to
class.
- You get to walk to your classes without
standing in line.
- You get a planner to write your homework in.
- You get more homework.
- You get a longer lunch.
- You go to lunch on your own instead of lining
up with your teacher.
- You have more food choices at lunch.
- You do not have recess.
- You get two lockers, one in 6th grade hall and
one in the locker room.
- In 6th grade you have four core classes -
Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts. These classes are
taught by two to three teachers depending on what team you are on.
Each team gets a certain number of students.
- Elective classes are classes you have either
3rd or 6th hour. They are Keyboarding, Tech Ed, Life Management, Art,
Foreign Language or Study Skills. You can also sign up for Band or
Performing Arts.
- Gym is a required class, you go there everyday
unless you are in Band or Performing Arts, then you go every other day.
- Each morning you go to AA where the teacher
reads the morning bulletin.
- Four times a year, there is a school dance
where you can dance, eat candy, drink pop and talk to your friends. It
costs $2.00 to go to a school dance. They happen right after school.
- In 6th grade you have to be more
independent. You have to rely on yourself more. You are
responsible for getting all your homework done. You have to know where
you belong, you have to memorize your schedule so you won't be late to any
of your classes.
