 Below you may find information about the exploratory classes.

 

       COMPUTER APPLICATIONS 

                Ms. Damian will be teaching computer skills to all seventh grade students.  They will start the year reviewing keyboarding.  Next they will progress to applications.  Throughout the semester they will work on the following topics/applications:

  • The windows environment.

  • Word processing; writing, editing, and using graphics in documents.

  • A brief introduction to Excel.

  • Creating and working with simple databases using Access.

  • Using the Internet for research projects.

  • Power Point slide shows with graphics, animation, and sound.

  • Working on creating Web Pages and other student interests.

  COMPUTER  APPLICATIONS GUIDELINES 

  1. All Woodhaven School District policies and Brownstown Middle School policies will be strictly followed.

  2. Students are to arrive on time and go directly to their seats upon entering the classroom.

  3. Students must come to class with their student planner and something to write with everyday.  Gum, pop, lunches, book bags, coats, etc. are not to be brought to class.

  4. Students are to stay seated until permission to leave the room or their work station is granted.  The lab is crowded and small and there is not much room to move around.

  5. There is to be no talking while the teacher is presenting the lesson.  

 

      SKILLS FOR LIVING/HEALTH              

Ms. Moore will be teaching Skills for Living /Health this year to all seventh graders. Below is introductory information regarding her class.

This semester class will examine several topics.  The skills for living content will consist of clothing maintenance (laundry, machine sewing straight seams and book covers, hand sewing hems and buttons) kitchen measurements, sanitation, and simple food preparation.
 
The Health component will examine the following topics: body and skin care, nutrition and healthy eating habits, alcohol, drug education, tobacco, reproductive health, and HIV/AIDS education.

Students will be expected to complete two "at home" assignments:   doing the family laundry and preparing and serving a family meal.  Assignment sheets for these two projects will be sent home and a parent signature will be required upon completion of the home projects.

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Mr. Kama will be the seventh grade physical education teacher.

  • Students will be taking gym and swimming this year with Mr. Kama.

  • Mr. Kama will also have the Wayne County Sheriff Marine Division teaching a boating safety class to all students.

  • All students must dress appropriately to participate in gym and/or swimming.

    PHYSICAL EDUCATION SAFETY RULES

  • Running and horseplay are not allowed in the pool or locker room area.

  • Students are not to enter the the pool or gym areas without a teacher present.

  • The "Sit and Slide Rule" must be followed when entering the pool.

                 ART/SHOP                                                           

Mr. Kubas will be teaching Art/shop to seventh grade students.

  • Students will be introduced to the safe handling of hand and power tools.

  • They will construct projects using these tools.

BAND

Mr. Mobley/Mr. McMillan will be teaching band to any seventh grader that chooses to participate.
