School Psychologists

School Psychologists must earn a Masters, an Educational Specialist, or a Doctoral Degree. They are uniquely qualified to diagnosis specific disabilities and provide recommendations to parents and teachers regarding appropriate school programming. In the Wyandotte Public Schools, the school psychologists are involved in consultation, intervention planning, determining eligibility for special education services, prevention programming, and vocational evaluation..

They primarily are involved in the identification of students who require special education services and consult with parents and staff. They are involved in each schools Child Study Meetings. The Child Study Meetings are designed to review a student’s progress, design intervention plans, and/or determine the need for an evaluation for eligibility for special education. A teacher consultant, school psychologist, classroom teacher, and the child’s parents attend these meetings.

If a psychological is requested, the school psychologist will review the information discussed at the Child Study Meeting and complete a comprehensive evaluation. Following the testing, the results are discussed with the parent and an Individual Educational Planning Team Meeting is scheduled at the school. If the student is found eligible for special education services an appropriate educational program is designed at that time.
