Speech and Language
Teacher of the Speech and Language Impaired offers individual and/or small-group instruction to children with disabilities in speech and/or language development.
Teacher Consultant
Meets with students and teachers not progress in General Education classes (approximately 15-30 minutes per week). Consults with General Education teachers to help with mainstreaming objectives.
School Social Worker
Provides direct
service to Special Education students in individual and small group
settings. Does cooperative teaching with Special Education teachers.
May develop behavior intervention plans (BIP) and Functional Behavioral Assessments
(FBA) as
appropriate.
North Middle School
Departmentalized
Services all students
with disabilities. Students move from class to class and may see more than
one special education teacher based on the subjects they are taking within the
special education department. Program uses corresponding curriculum texts.
Students IEP indicates how many special educational hours they will
receive. special education teachers are available for each academic
subject area.
Self-Contained MICI
Special Education
program (full day) that services children with cognitive limitations. This
class is taught by a certified MI teacher. Students are mainstreamed into
the general education curriculum, where appropriate, for nonacademic and core
classes depending on their ability to function in a general education
class. A major emphasis of this program is learning daily living skills,
such as cooking and money management and basic academic skills in reading and
math.
South Middle School
Resource Room
Services all disabilities for a minimum of 15 minutes per week (TC Services) up to one-half of the school day. The special education teacher offers small-group instruction in the area(s) of disability. Students track general education class assignments on a pink sheet, and positive incentives are offered at the end of the week for task completion.
Self-Contained EI/LD
All day Special Education program separated by grade level (6, 7 and 7, 8) that services children with learning disabilities and emotional impairments who need more than one-half day specialized instruction. Students are mainstreamed into the general education curriculum, where appropriate, for nonacademic classes and core classes in their area of strength, depending on their ability to function in a general education class. This class is taught by a special education teacher with LD or EI certification. A major component of this program is a behavioral point system, where students earn grades and positive incentives for appropriate behavior. Students track assignments in all classes on pink sheets and earn positive incentives for task completion.
Self-Contained MICI
Special Education program (full day) that services children with cognitive limitations. This class is taught by a certified MI teacher.
