Elementary School Services Grades K-5
|
Speech and Language
Teacher of the Speech and Language Impaired offers individual, small-group
and/or cooperative teaching instruction to children with disabilities/delays in speech and
language development.
Teacher Consultant
Meets with students and teachers to promote progress in general education classes
(approx 15-30 minutes/week). Consults with general education teachers to help with
mainstreaming objectives.
School Social Worker
Provides direct service to special education students in individual and small
group settings. May develop behavior intervention plans (BIP) and functional
behavioral assessment (FBA) as appropriate.
Resource Room
Services all disabilities for a minimum of 15 minutes/week (TC services) to up
to one-half of the school day. The special education teacher offers small-group
instruction in the area(s) of disability.
Self-Contained CI (K-5)
Special education full day program that services children with mild and moderate cognitive impairments in a general education setting. Students are mainstreamed into the general education curriculum, where appropriate, for nonacademic classes and core classes in their area of strength, depending on their ability to function in a general education class. This class is taught by a special education teacher with MI certification.
Self-Contained EI/LD
(K-3)
Special education full day program that services children with learning
disabilities and emotional impairments who need more than one-half day specialized
instruction. Students are mainstreamed into the general education curriculum, where
appropriate, for nonacademic classes and core classes in their area of strength, depending
on their ability to function in a general education class. This class is taught by a
special education teacher with LD or EI certification.
Self-Contained EI
(3-5)
Services students with Emotional Impairments who exhibit significant behavior
problems, to the extent that they need an all-day special education setting to help them
cope with emotional, social, and behavioral issues. This setting offers intensive
personal adjustment, behavior management, and adaptive instruction. This class is
taught by a certified EI special education teacher. Students are also supported by
School Social Worker (SSW) intervention. Students are mainstreamed into the
general education curriculum, where appropriate, for nonacademic and core classes depending on
their ability to function in a general education class.
