Early Intervention Program |

The Mandatory Special Education Act establishes the right of handicapped persons from birth to 26 years of age, a free and appropriate education within the public school setting.
This means that young handicapped children do not need to wait for the traditional school age to benefit from special education services.
Children entering the Early
Intervention Program have identified delays which include:
Early
Childhood Developmental Delay
Physical and Otherwise Health Impairment
Severe Speech and Language Impairment
Visual Impairment
Emotional
Impairment
Hearing Impairment
Cognitive Impairment
A variety of services are available for the family and child following the Early Intervention experience:
Speech Therapy
Head Start
MSRP Michigan School Readiness Program - classroom for "at risk preschoolers"
Pre Primary Impaired Preschool Classroom for all disabilities
Vision and Hearing Consultant
Occupational & Physical Therapy
E.I.P. Classrooms: At three and four years of age, the child is eligible for a
classroom experience. Five 1/2 day sessions per week the child attends a preschool special
education class for two and one-half hours each day. Developmental learning
experiences are provided within a classroom environment through participation
with Wayne Westland School District. Ongoing assessment and
reinforcement of individualized education plans are important components of the classroom.
Home visits are provided for classroom children as needed.
