Carlson Idol
American Idol, watch out! Carlson High School students are showing off their talents! On Friday, April 11, Carlson’s Business Professionals of America Club sponsored its annual Carlson Idol competition. In support of the BPA fundraiser, students paid $4.00 to attend the talent show during their 6th hour to watch and cheer on their favorite Idol contestants.
Jennifer Parrish, Emily Meadows, and Taylor Yaeger each sang popular songs that had the audience singing along; Nisa Penland demonstrated multiple talents by singing and playing the piano simultaneously; Cameron Jones performed a guitar solo; Ryan Jernigan and Nathan D’Andrea each performed drum ensembles; Ralph Yap and Dario Nassal showed off their talents performing a drum/keyboard duo; and the group “Brand New,” including Eric Byers, Lawrence Byers, Garrett Sanders, and Tariq Strong strutted their stuff across the stage with an entertaining dance. Larry Talley and Ryan Winningham also entertained the crowd in a friendly Rubik’s Cube challenge. Larry Talley came out the winner, solving the infamous puzzle the quickest two out of three rounds. Throughout the show the performers were judged by both staff and peers.
In the end cash prizes were awarded to the top three performances: 1st place went to “Brand New,” 2nd place went to Nisa Penland, and 3rd place was awarded to Nathan D’Andrea. All the performers gave their best and put together a great show!
