Course
Description:
French III is a continued expansion of language understanding and cultural
heritage through short stories and novels. More emphasis is made on
conversation and discussions using the language and current idioms.
Major
Areas of Study:
Intermediate to advanced vocabulary, present, past, future and conditional
tense verbs (regular and irregular) in indicative and subjunctive moods,
perfection of various grammatical constructions, pronunciation, and
continued cultural information about various French-speaking countries.
Objectives:
Students will be able to:
Perfect their basic skills in French in the following areas:
Speaking
Listening
Reading
Writing
Develop a wider knowledge of the cultures of various French-speaking
countries
Activities and Skill Development:
In addition to the skills developed in French I and II, students will
demonstrate that they can do the following and will be assessed by oral and
written evaluation (tests, quizzes, paragraphs):
1. Be able to function proficiently using past, present, future, and
conditional
structures.
2. Be able to function proficiently in "survival French" (travel,
shopping, hotel,
train, bus, plane,
bank, restaurant, customs (airport).
3. Use more complex grammatical constructions proficiently (conditional
and
past subjunctive, future
perfect, etc.)
4. Be able to comprehend, analyze and discuss various reading styles and
selections
5. Continue a writing portfolio with paragraphs about various topics.
