Course
Description:
French II is a continuation of the study of the French language. The
student will study grammar and vocabulary more extensively through the
reading of short narratives and stories. The students' writing skills will
be expanded through guided writing drills, grammar and speech patterns.
Continued cultural understanding is encouraged.
Major
Areas of Study:
Intermediate vocabulary, present- and past-tense verbs (regular and
irregular), perfection of various grammatical constructions, pronunciation,
and continued cultural information about various Spanish-speaking countries.
Objectives:
Students will be able to:
Continue development of basic skills in French in the following areas:
Speaking
Listening
Reading
Writing
Develop a wider knowledge of the cultures of various French-speaking
countries.
Activities and Skill Development:
In addition to the continuation of the French I skill development, students
will demonstrate that they
can do the following and will be assessed by oral and written evaluation
(tests, quizzes, paragraphs):
1. Be able to talk about personal care and activities (using reflexive
verbs).
2. Talk about activities in past tense (preterite, imperfect, and present
and past
perfect tenses).
3. Give commands and/or suggestions in French (formally and informally)
using the imperative and subjunctive tenses.
4. Talk about travel preparations and ask for and give travel information
(ask
and give directions).
5. Talk about preferences in TV and radio.
6. Talk about health (problems, body parts, etc.).
7. Complete a restaurant video skit.
8. Continue a writing portfolio with paragraphs about the topics listed
above.
